Crystal Castles - Not In Love (ft. Robert Smith)
This little gem came out a while ago, but I can’t get enough of it. Pairing Robert Smith’s vocals with Crystal Castles’ lo-res electro pop and some driving synth bass is such magic, I could wish Smith fronted them full-time.
La Roux - Quicksand (Alex Metric Remix)
Alex Metric’s remixes are always solid and this older one of La Roux’s Quicksand is no different. Great build the whole way through, and I love the vocal cut-up at the end.
Van Go Lion - The Ache
I’ve really been all about the electro-pop music lately. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be over to industrial or power metal or something soon enough. Maybe I can beg quantumpossibility to do some lovestep guest posts…
Right now though, I can’t get enough of this track by Portland’s Van Go Lion. That breathy pad synth that pervades the track; all the sounds used really evoke the ’80s, freshened up by modern production. Amy Paige’s vocals are a perfect match for the music and — I know it’s as cheesy as the music almost gets — the whole thing becomes this sound that just makes me smile.
Parallels - Ultralight (Official Video) (by Parallels)
A darker slice of electro-pop from Canadian group, Parallels.
NYC’s Designer Drugs hit Edmonton May 21 at the Starlite Room! If you want a little taste of what to expect, check out this latest installment of the Datamix series.

Le Castle Vania - Zero Machine
This remix of Smashing Pumpkins’ Zero has been around for a while now, but listening to it again recently I was reminded how good it is. Something about those old grunge guitars just fits so well with the distorted synths that are so hot right now.
Enjoy!
New track from Deadmau5: Some Chords. Mmm, dirty bass…
At least, I assume it is. I’ll get a better sense when I can listen in some good headphones and not my laptop speakers. :(
