Clubroot - Solar Flares
Definitely a bit of Burial influence on this — particularly in the abstracted vocal samples — but if Burial is evocative of the dim London streets, then this track was brought forth from a hidden cave system kilometers below those streets.
Cavernous reverb and echo drenches everything except the beat, which keeps a nice, tight rhythm. The bass ebbs and swells, only leaving you a few fleeting moments to break the surface. If you can listen to this one on speakers with good bass response, I recommend it!
Clubroot - Solar Flares
Primal echoes weave around a melody dreaming in sound. There’s a hint of Burial-esque magic in here.
“As the third single released in anticipation of Scott Hansen’s long-awaited full-length as Tycho, “Coastal Brake” may be the best yet—a sweet slice of dream-beat that glides over the ocean surface like a high-speed waverider. “Coastal Brake”’s vintage synthesizers set the pointillistic scene, blipping and popping around a near-Balearic rhythm like melancholy drops in a river, rising and falling and building to a shimmering climax.”
Nice bit of word-smithery from the label description there. Trying to describe music in words is often unwieldy and can come off overdone—in this case the music lives up to it’s verbiage.
Racoon Suit - Lists
Some sweet ambient electronic music from Edmonton’s Mikey Maybe. Best enjoyed with a mug of Ovaltine.
Aphex Twin - Untitled (via McGregor57)
Untitled new track from Aphex Twin? Yes please! The audio quality on this live video is incredible! The worst part of the clip is at 5:48 when it ends…
Man, I haven’t listened to Aphex in a minute. Might have to put on SAW Vol.2 for the rest of the afternoon.
